About the Book: Wandered the Traveller by Nisar Aziz Butt is a landmark South Asian literary classic, translated into English for the first time by Daisy Rockwell. This semi-autobiographical novel follows Afgar, a brilliant young Pashtun woman navigating an orphaned childhood, life in a secluded mountain sanatorium, and her ambition to pursue a doctorate at Cambridge. Intelligent, independent, and searching for love, Afgar challenges traditional expectations of women and relationships. Witty, tender, and quietly radical, the novel explores female ambition, desire, identity, education, and independence, offering a rare perspective on women’s lives and aspirations in South Asian literature.
