About the Book: The Assault on Truth by Jeffrey Moussaieff Masson examines a pivotal controversy in the history of psychoanalysis: Sigmund Freud’s reversal of his original seduction theory, which linked childhood sexual abuse to adult psychological distress. Drawing on previously sealed documents and historical research, Masson investigates Freud’s changing views and their implications for psychoanalytic theory and practice. This thought-provoking work explores the relationship between childhood trauma, memory, repression, and the development of modern psychology, offering a critical perspective on Freud’s legacy and the history of psychoanalysis.
