About the Book: The story follows Riko, a woman trapped in a marriage soured by her husband’s infidelity. Her life changes when she reconnects with her old friend, Mr Takaoka, who offers her an unusual escape: teaching her how to live inside her dreams. Each night, Riko sinks into a different historical life, first as a high-ranking courtesan in the 17th century and later as a serving lady to a princess in the late Middle Ages. Her intense experiences of desire and heartbreak in the past prompt her to reconsider her present 21st-century life—as a wife, mother, and lover—and to ask if she is ready for a “third great love” after her husband and Mr Takaoka.
